History
In 1994 Giuse B. Ferri (Mama) opened and ran, in Barbados, her Italian cheese factory Casaro Cheeses. She later acquired an existing Italian restaurant, Luigi’s which she revitalized and operated for 8 years before selling it on. In 2003 she came up with a new concept for restaurants in Barbados, an Italian deli restaurant.
The atmosphere would be informal, friendly and inviting. It would offer an extensive variety of top quality Italian food options. It would appeal to a wide cross section of patrons, from worker to executive to business owner and of course to families. Italian culinary culture is rooted in the family, for this reason she called it Mama Mia.
The success of Mama Mia is a classic demonstration of the importance of getting the concept right. Mama Mia has become an established favourite dining place for Barbadians who speak glowingly of their love of the food, the ambiance, and the style of the operation. But it is also a place where visitors to Barbados meet and enjoy Mama Mia’s uniquely European flavour.
